Loyola Falls To Cleveland State At Horizon League Championship

May 10, 2008

Box Score

CHICAGO - Top-seeded Cleveland State (31-17) scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to break open a one-run game and earn a 5-0 victory over No. 4 seed Loyola University Chicago (22-25-1) this afternoon in an elimination game at Loyola Softball Park. With their second loss at the Horizon League Championship, the Ramblers conclude their season.

The Vikings jumped on the board by scoring an unearned run in the bottom of the first inning when Jessica Burt scored on an error. From there, the game became a pitcher's duel between Loyola's Krista Crosson and Cleveland State's Amanda Macenko, who was the 2008 Horizon League Pitcher of the Year.

Cleveland State broke the game open in the sixth inning by scoring four runs, with the big blow being a two-run, pinch-hit triple by Christina Stoffer.

Haley Ambrosch had two of Loyola's three hits off Macenko, who struck out seven and walked only one.
